At ULS Maintenance & Landscaping, we are committed to promoting green practices and environmental responsibility.  By connecting a highly trained and motivated workforce with the latest in technology, we balance the delivery of professional landscape services with a limited environmental impact.  Over the years, ULS has incorporated the following practices and programs to fulfill our environmental mandate:

  • Continually educating our team members, clients and the public regarding effective horticultural maintenance practices.
  • Reduction of herbicide use by offering organic, herbicide free fertilization programs.
  • Employing & Promoting IPM, Integrated Pest Management, program with the City of Calgary.
    - IPM is an internationally recognized planning and management strategy to control unwanted vegetation, insects and pests. Control strategies include education, proper waste management, structural repair, proper maintenance practices, biological & mechanical controls and pesticide application. This program helps promote the reduction of pesticides through a diagnosed targeted approach.
    - ULS offers a pesticide free organic fertilization program.
  • Facility review to incorporate green practices. 
    - ULS now recycles all scrap metal, used oil, and glass to reduce landfill space.  ULS also uses the proper channels to depose of any contaminates collected through operations and salvage.
    - Office recycling program for all paper products, bottles, cans etc.
  • Promotion of mulching practices to reduce water use and promote water conservation. 
    - All properties that can have grass clippings mulched are, to help reduce landfill pressure. ULS also recycles and composts some of the organic wastes collected in field operations.
  • Introduction of Hybrid vehicles to our fleet where practical.
    - At present, hybrids make up 7% of our vehicle fleet.
  • On going purchase of new equipment to reduce oil leaks and emissions. 
    - Daily vehicle and equipment maintenance programs to ensure we operate at maximum efficiency, eliminate fluid leaks and minimize emissions.
  • Charitable support of Trout Unlimited Canada whose top priority is the preservation of Canada’s water ways.

ULS will be looking to build a new facility in 2009. As part of the process we are analyzing all aspects of green construction to reduce operational foot print on the environment.
